The Department of Justice would save over £220,000 per year by closing Ballymena Courthouse (where Larne cases are heard), the Justice Minister has revealed.

The information was contained in correspondence from Minister David Ford to Mid & East Antrim Council presented at the January meeting.

The minister is due to announce his decision on a series of recommendations on proposals to rationalise the court estate.

His letter stated that he appreciated “the disappointment felt by the people ... about this recommendation”.
