Councillor wants Glenmona consultation

A MOYLE councillor has called on The National Trust to initiate a process of consultation with residents in Cushendun so that a long term project can be established at Glenmona House in the village.

Sinn Fein’s Colum Thompson had previously called on The Trust to bring forward a project at Glenmona which would bring the same sort of benefits to Cushendun as other National Trust developments have brought to both Bushmills and Ballintoy in recent years.

Speaking about Glenmona, Councillor Thompson said: “I had contacted The National Trust in relation to their plans for Glenmona and I received an e-mail stating that The Trust were planning on a consultation process with local residents to gather their opinions on what sort of project would best benefit Cushendun.

“It is encouraging that The Trust are keen to consult local people on any project going forward and I would call on The National Trust to begin the process of consultation as soon as possible.

“We have seen the benefits of The National Trust developing their existing resources in other areas in Moyle and it is high time Cushendun received the same sort of focus. Glenmona House is a wonderful building in a stunning setting and there are many development projects which have the potential to increase visitor numbers to Cushendun and in turn boost local businesses and create employment.”
