Cookstown runners hope event will raise £10,000

Already the event has attracted huge interest from self-confessed ‘couch potatoes’ to keen runners alike.

Scheduled for next Sunday, December 7, at the Mid Ulster Sports Arena, the race will kick off at 12 noon, with competitors able to choose either the 10k run or 5 mile walk.

Declan Gormley, chief organiser of the run, said: “When I decided to do this run in 2012, not for one minute did I think it would become an annual thing, but it went from approx 40 people in year one to 100 people

in year two! It has been such a success and everyone who took part, felt a real sense of achievement – not just for completing the run but also for giving something back into the community.

“In the last two years, this event has raised a staggering amount of over £7000 by all the participants through sponsorship. It would be fantastic to hit the £10,000 target this year, however, more important than the fundraising is the increased awareness that it brings to St Vincent de Paul Society.
