MEA councillors have discussed the provision of tourist accommodation at the most recent meeting of the Economic Growth and Development Committee on June 15.

The debate was in response to DETI’s consultative document “the Review of Tourism Accommodation Policy 2015-2020.” The review considers current and future accommodation needs.

Councillor Gordon Lyons said he had spoken to people who wanted to stay in B&Bs due to the Gobbins, and that council needed to work out “what accommodation is needed, where and what mix of accommodation this will be.” Chief executive Anne Donaghy said that the area had fewer beds than were needed,s with an annual occupancy rate of 80 per cent.
