On two occasions Ronnie Menary said workmen went about their business at Richmount Gardens while cars were parked ‘in the firing line’.

Ronnie (67) told the ‘MAIL’: “The first time they were here was May 2. I got up that morning at 8.30am to find them digging up the road at the back of the house.

“They were filling in holes here and there. The work they were doing was causing dirt and stones to fly up. Other cars as well as mine were covered.”

He added: “The tail-light of my car was broken.

“It cost me £125 to fix and I’ve put in a claim which the DRD have yet to pay.

“I filled in a claim form and they say they’re investigating it. How long does it take?”

Ronnie continued: “They came back again on June 8 to do more work out my back.

“This time my wife moved the car but they had no intentions of coming to ask us.

“I said to one of the big lads, ‘Why didn’t you come to the door?’ and he told me to ‘eff off’.

“They were just going to work away under the car. It’s very lazy. This could easily have been prevented by notifying residents to move their cars.”

Ronnie has taken photos of the work going on and of the damage to the car which he has included with his claim.

A DRD spokeswoman said: “DRD has been in correspondence with the claimant since his claim was first received on May 19.

“It would be inappropriate to comment further as the case is ongoing.”
