Cinemagic has launched its annual call for young film enthusiasts to take on the role of ‘film consultants’ in July (26 until 31) .

Participants will be asked to help select a series of films for the Cinemagic International Film and Television Festival programme for Young People that takes place in Belfast in the autumn.

The festival will include new film screenings from around the world, filmmaking workshops, competitions, masterclasses and film education events for young people.

The participants in the young consultants’ programme in association with Gentle Dental Care, will work with the Cinemagic team in Belfast to help steer the choice of films for the festival, as they watch and critique films from around the globe.

If you are a budding film critic who would enjoy the opportunity to spend time with Cinemagic, this is an opportunity to meet other likeminded young people and have fun deciding the content of the largest film festival for young people in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Chris Shaw, Cinemagic programmer, said “The young film consultants will have the opportunity to watch and review international films guided by the Cinemagic team in Belfast and there will be lots of opportunities for discussion and debate.

“The young people will also contribute ideas for the festival programme and help with the promotion of festival events.”

To apply, participants must be aged eight to 11 years, 12 to 14 years and 15to 18 years with a keen interest in film and the enthusiasm to discuss and debate within a group. Register by downloading the registration form on and post it to Cinemagic, Young Consultants, 49 Botanic Avenue, Belfast, BT7 1JL or email by July 17.

Young consultants must be available for both dates in their group. The cost to participate is £10 per person.

The programme is open to young people from Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland.

The Cinemagic Young Consultants July programme is presented in association with Gentle Dental Care Belfast. The Cinemagic Festival is funded by Northern Ireland Screen supported by DCAL, funded by Belfast City Council and sponsored by George Best Belfast City Airport.
