Children's author met local pupils in library

LIBRARIES NI invited Primary 3 and Primary 4 children from Portstewart Primary School and St Colum's Primary School to come along and meet author Karl O'Neill in Portstewart Library on Tuesday.

Karl O’Neill was born in Armagh and now lives in Dublin. He is a theatre, radio, and television actor, currently portraying Tim Carney in RT's popular soap 'Fair City'. Karl is currently in rehearsals with Big Telly Theatre Company, which is based next door to the library, for a new production.

Library staff would like to thank the Big Telly Theatre Company for ‘lending’ them Mr O’Neill for the morning!

Karl has performed in a wide variety of theatre roles and he finished writing his well-known children’s book, The Most Beautiful Letter In The World while rehearsing the Little Red Kettle's production of 'Peter Pan' at the Theatre Royal, Waterford in 2005.

The Most Beautiful Letter In The World was written for Karl's niece Sheena's ninth birthday on Christmas Day 2005. Karl let her 'discover' the story inside a red envelope marked "To you" which he left beside a War Memorial monument in The Mall, a park in Armagh, on that Christmas Eve.

The Most Beautiful Letter In The World is a beautifully illustrated gift book and this heart-warming story will stay with the reader forever.

The primary school children who had been invited to this event thoroughly enjoyed meeting and chatting to Karl about his life as an author and actor.
