Children found playing with stun gun at Mourne Road

The children, both aged eight years old, found the stun gun under a hedge row in the Mourne Road area on Friday.

An adult noticed and immediately took the weapon away from them.

Police were called and confirmed that it was a rechargeable stun gun. It was disposed off after the incident.

A police spokesman said: “Fortunately, no one was injured in this incident however the outcome could have been very different.

“I would strongly advise any member of the public who comes across an unknown object to notify police immediately so that we can ensure their safety.

“I would also ask parents to speak to their children and make them aware that they should not touch any item which they cannot identify.”
