Celebrating business success

The borough’s top businesses came together recently to celebrate the best of innovation and creativity at the Newtownabbey Business Awards.

Theatre at The Mill played host to the black tie event on November 14, which saw awards being scooped up by the cream of the local business community.

The awards, compered by UTV presenter Marc Mallett, were organised by Newtownabbey Borough Council with the support of Full Circle Management Solutions.

The winners were: Excellence in customer service (retail) - Nesbitt’s Quality Meats; Excellence in customer service (non-retail) - Arlene’s Hair & Beauty; Best tourism & hospitality provider - Dunamoy Cottages & Spa; Best business premises award - Philip Tweedie Estate Agents; Best new business - Environmental Street Furniture; Best small business - Armstrong Solicitors; Best growth business - Environmental Street Furniture; Young Entrepreneur of the Year - Tess Cooke, Indigo Ivy and Daniel Harvey, Daniel @ The Five Corners; Involvement in the community award - Laurelview Equestrian Centre; Business Person of the Year - Shelly Taylor. Ballyclare Chamber of Trade, Glengormley Chamber & Traders’ Group and Mallusk Enterprise Park were each presented with Outstanding Commitment Awards for their voluntary contribution to economic life in the borough.

“We are delighted to recognise the dedication of our entrepreneurs and commitment to growth that local firms have demonstrated over recent years. I would commend all who entered the awards for their determination to succeed and congratulate the worthy winners,” said Mayor Thomas Hogg.

Simon Devlin, Managing Director of Full Circle Management Solutions added: “The judges were impressed with both the calibre and breadth of the applications received - from fledgling businesses to much longer established companies across a whole range of market sectors. What really struck the judges was the entrepreneurial spirit that clearly exists in the borough of Newtownabbey. Having gone through so much pain due to the economic downturn, owner-managers of small businesses in the area have had to diversify and take risks to survive, consolidate and grow.”
