Boost for charity shops

TRADITIONALLY known as ‘the Season of Goodwill’ Christmas is the season for giving, and for charity groups in Londonderry there was a welcome boost to their seasonal sale items when members of the PSNI dropped in to donate a range of seized goods.

Foyle Neighbourhood City Centre Team delivered a large quantity of seized goods and toys to Barnardos, Oxfam, Saint Vincent de Paul and Action Cancer charity shops in the City Centre - just in time for the Christmas shopping frenzy.

According to a PSNI spokeswoman, the police donated items that were seized in the commission of crime, where the victims could not be identified.

A large selection of children’s toys, clothing, jewellery and electrical items were delivered to the four charities.

Commenting on the initiative Neighbourhood Constable John Bannon said: “We consider it highly appropriate to give back to the community and constantly look at ways to support our local community and organisations within it. This will be an ongoing initiative and we hope to continue to donate more goods throughout next year”.

Any charity shop that would like to receive donated goods is asked to contact City Centre Neighbourhood Team at Strand Road station on 0845 600 8000.
