Book gifts from Danville writers

VISITORS from Carrick’s sister city of Danville, Kentucky, have presented the town’s library with a number of books.

The publications, a gift from Boyle County Public Library in Danville, were presented during a visit honouring the second anniversary of the towns’ initial link-up.

Written by four of Danville’s home-grown authors, they include two volumes of poetry, Bucolics by Maurice Manning and Isaac Murphy: I dedicate this ride by Frank X Walker, and two children’s books, That Book Woman by Heather Henson and Perfect Timing by Patsi Trollinger.

That Book Woman tells the story of one of the Pack Horse Librarians of the 1930s, a group who delivered books to remote areas throughout Kentucky and other parts of the US.

“It was lovely to receive the books, particularly the two for children which are beautifully illustrated,” said Libraries NI Area Manager Fiona McCallum.

“We’ve also swapped email addresses with staff members of Boyle County Library; it’s a great opportunity to keep in touch and share details of good practice.”
