Bid to relocate village post office falls through

PLANS to relocate Ballycarry's post office have fallen through.

And the setback is a concern for Ulster Unionist MLA Roy Beggs Jnr, who has urged Post Office Ltd: "The community needs to see action, not just words of comfort."

After the original branch closed following a fire around Christmas, 2008 Post Office Ltd had been in talks with an agent who had expressed an interest in opening the branch at a convenience store at 42 Main Street. However, in the past week it revealed that: "Regrettably, the agent we had identified to operate the branch on our behalf has decided not to proceed with the application."
