Bert brought a smile to everyone’s face

At his request, a short service was held in his home at 2pm on Monday 24th September 2012, where the Rev. Michael Davidson officiated after which the burial took place in Old Drumgooland Burial Ground. The family walked the entire way from his home to his place of interment.

Bert was born on 27 April 1937, son of the late Robert and Minnie and didn’t have to go too far to find his future wife with whom he would spent 47 years.

He will be fondly remembered for his quirky catchphrases, such as “When she bumps, she bounces” as he drove the Leyland tractor in and out of the lane. He never failed to bring a smile to his grandchildren’s faces and they returned the favour.

An active farmer for his whole life, he cared for both his beef and sheep stock and his land with ardent, steady vigour, faithfully accompanied by his dog Jess. He had great respect for and was respected by neighbours and farming acquaintances alike.

He is survived by and will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 47 years, Maureen, his daughter Sharon, son Noel, son in law Sam and daughter in law Shirley, his grandchildren Gary, Amy, Jason, Dawn, Faye and Lynn and brother John.

Bert was predeceased by his sisters Maggie and Rachel, brothers James and Joe. Family flowers were placed on the grave.
