Belmont kids to take part in arts festival

A GROUP of young people from a school in Londonderry are set to take part in an exciting new arts festival.

ADAPT NI is providing local young people from Belmont House School with the opportunity to explore what equality means to them, in an innovative and creative way.

The No Limits! Arts Festival, proven to be a popular event in ADAPTs Disability Equality Programme, offers schools and youth group’s participatory arts workshops to explore concepts such as citizenship, inclusion and accessible environments.

Under the guidance of experienced artists, youngsters can engage with these fundamental issues, using the arts, drama, animation, film and media as creative tools of expression.

In March, the Londonderry pupils will take part in a number of Drama workshops.

Jennifer Lee from ADAPT NI commented: “The aim of these workshops is for young people both with and without disabilities to recognise that disability does not mean inability.

“More broadly, the workshops will encourage all young people to embrace positive attitudes towards diversity at an early age, carrying this into adulthood and playing a significant part in influencing changes in attitudes throughout society.”

The workshops are a key part of the No Limits programme of events celebrating diversity in the arts and society, developed in partnership with Fleming Fulton’s LILAC project.
