Bar staff receive alcohol harm training

The Counter Measures programme is facilitated by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP).

It helps participants keep up to date with new liquor licensing laws and the Responsible Retailing Code of Practice for the sale and promotion of alcohol.

The training highlights the potential harm of excessive alcohol consumption, and makes staff aware of new legal duties within the licensed environment of a pub or club.

The Chairman of the PCSP, Alderman William King, says staff have an important role to play: “I would like to thank all those businesses who participated in this first training session. It is important that all alcohol retailers act responsibly. Those who have taken part have shown a commitment to this. I would encourage all retailers to sign up to the further sessions planned by the PCSP. Working together we can combat the social impact of excessive alcohol consumption.”

The course will be delivered again in Limavady on November 8th.

Further sessions will take place in the New Year in Ballycastle (January 11th), Ballymoney, (February 8th) Coleraine, (February 21st) and Cushendall, (March 1st).
