1,000 tyres are removed from Ballyduff bonfire site

Following the success of the pilot Bonfire Management Programme last year, the council, along with community and statutory partners, have agreed to co-operate on a protocol again this year.

Part of the agreement states that there will be no tyres or other inappropriate material on the agreed sites. The decision therefore to remove more than 1,000 tyres from the Ballyduff site has been a welcome development.

The council’s Director of Environmental Services, Hugh Kelly, commended the local bonfire representatives for their co-operation, highlighting the significant environmental damage which burning such materials can cause.
