Talks to hold the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series in Northern Ireland confirmed

Causeway Coast and Glens Council officials have been in talks with Red Bull over the possibility of bringing a world-renowned cliff diving event to the north coast.

Representatives of the energy drink giant which runs the Cliff Diving World Series and a host of other extreme sports events met with council officers last week to explore future opportunities.

While the council insists no specific activities have been agreed for further exploration, it is believed Portrush has been raised as a possible diving location.

A Council spokesperson, confirmed: “Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council officials recently met with representatives from Red Bull to discuss opportunities for working together in the future and building on activities that have taken place in the past, within the council area. At this point in time, no specific activities have been agreed for further exploration.”The Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series, established in 2009 and created by Red Bull, is an annual international series of cliff diving events in which a limited number of competitors take part to determine the Cliff Diving World Series winner.

Billed as the world's oldest extreme sport, the contest runs at various venues throughout the year where divers, both men and women, launch from a platform at a height ranging from 26 to 28metres into the water.

Each contestant is then judged on their acrobatics and artistic moves with an overall champion crowned and awarded the coveted King Kahekili trophy, as well as a winner's prize fund.

Over the years, the event has been held in Spain, Italy, Australia, Switzerland , Bosnia, Denmark, France and America.
