Downhill to host dusk til dawn Peace Camp

THE Coleraine borough has been chosen as one of eight venues for a UK-wide Peace Camp, the Coleraine Times can reveal.

The camp will be held at Downhill Beach from July 19-22, running from dusk til dawn - 10.30pm until 5.30am every morning.

The other venues across the UK are Cuckmere Haven, Seaford, East Sussex, Godrevy, Cornwall, Cemaes Bay, Anglesey, White Park Bay, Moyle, Cliff Beach, Valtos, Isle of Lewis, Scotland, Fort Fiddes, Cullykhan Bay, Aberdeenshire Scotland and Dunstanburgh Castle, Craster, Northumberland.

Inspired by the Olympic Truce, whose roots date back to Ancient Greece, renowned director Deborah Warner and actor Fiona Shaw will created an extraordinary art installation encircling the venues.

Downhill Beach, located close to the iconic Mussenden Temple, will host an encampment of hundreds of tents, lit up with sound, music and light throughout the night.

The eight murmuring, glowing encampments will appear simultaneously at the beautiful and remote coastal locations.

Designed to be visited between dusk and dawn, the Peace Camp will be, according to the organisers, a poignant exploration of love poetry and a celebration of the extraordinary variety and beauty of our coastlines.
