Cartoons in Conflict’ in Moyle

The exhibition was organised through the Moyle District Council’s Good Relations programme and facilitated by Jim O’Neill from Community Dialogue.

The exhibits were produced by a diverse range of artists from around the world after a request from the peace group ‘The Parent’s Circle’. The group are made up of Israeli and Palestinian bereaved families who wanted to do something to highlight the destructiveness and futility of war.

Participants were asked to choose pieces they felt stood out from the exhibition, and facilitated discussions were held to compare people’s thoughts and feelings around these. A common thread during conversations was how the circumstances, resultant suffering and feelings surrounding conflict situations are mirrored across many countries and regions of the world.

Elaine Gaston, Moyle District Council’s Arts Officer stated: ‘This moving and thought-provoking exhibition was a good example of how art can contribute towards healing conflict. It deserves to be seen by as many people as possible.’
