Band delighted to be returning to Carnmoney

AFTER receiving a rousing reception during their visit to Newtownabbey last year, members of The Nottinghamshire Band of the Royal Engineers have been looking forward to their return to the borough tonight (Thursday, August 16) for a concert in Carnmoney Presbyterian Church.

The Territorial Army Band, made up of part-time soldiers from all walks of civilian life, enjoyed their 2011 tour of Northern Ireland so much, they opted to come back and help raise money for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity and the Royal Irish Regiment Benevolent Fund.

Paul Thomas, permanent Staff Band Sergeant-Major said: “We are delighted to return to Carnmoney. It is a fantastic building to play in and the people are so welcoming.”

The band will be playing several venues during this year’s tour to raise money for soldiers, ex-soldiers and families who have fallen upon hard times.

David Forsey, NI Director of the ABF charity commented: “We are seeing 4,500 new cases of need every year on a national basis. The people of Newtownabbey are very caring and I do hope they’ll come to hear the band play and perhaps make a donation.”

The concert at Carnmoney Presbyterian Church starts at 7.45pm sharp. Entry costs £5, payable at the door.
