Prince Philip was born in Corfu, Greece, on 10 June 1921. He was the only son of Prince Andrew of Greece and his mother was Princess Alice of Battenberg, hence giving him the title of ‘Prince of Greece and Denmark’.

Aircraft workers at Short Brothers and Harland in Belfast give a royal welcome to Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, during their tour of the hangar on their way to a naming ceremony. The royal couple named a four-engine Short Solent flying boat "Aotearoa 11", the first aircraft produced in Belfast by the Short concern.
