Margaret Young said she found her role at the centre - which offers respite for families with relatives living with dementia as well as a range of activities, a hot meal and help to clients - very fulfilling.

“Everyone’s so friendly,” she said, “and the support I receive from the staff and how well we work together as a team is wonderful.

“Knowing my contribution is appreciated really helps; it feels good to be able to make a positive difference.”

Day Centre Manager, Myrtle Johnston, said, “Laurelhill day centre plays an important part in the local community.

“Our volunteers must be enthusiastic, reliable and interested in helping older people with dementia to remain social and engaged.

“We would love some extra help from those with a few hours to spare each Wednesday between 9.30am to 4.30pm.
