Northern Regional College hosts virtual open day

Open days are traditionally an opportunity for students to visit the College campus of their choice - Ballymena, Ballymoney, Coleraine, Magherafelt or Newtownabbey.

Campus visits are not possible this year but by logging on to the College’s user-friendly Open Day portal, students can ‘visit’ all campuses and explore course options from the comfort of their own homes.

The College offers a comprehensive range of courses from entry to postgraduate level, including accredited qualifications for school leavers, full and part-time courses for adults, apprenticeships, professional qualifications and university accredited courses, as well as business support services. Courses reflect local demand and are designed to close identified skills gaps.

Supply Chain and Logistics is a well-established sector within the NI economy but the upsurge in online shopping has put significant pressure on warehousing and storage. The most recent FTA Skills Shortage Report in 2019 identified a growing demand for distribution and warehouse managers, importers and exporters, purchasing managers and transport managers and Brexit has created additional roles and skills required for customs, tariffs alongside planning and analysis.

To address this skills gap, Northern Regional College has introduced a Higher Level Apprentice (HLA) in Logistics and Supply Chain (validation to be confirmed May 2021). The College is the only HE provider in Northern Ireland to specifically address Supply Chain or Transport and Logistics. The course has been endorsed by industry and its contents compiled with the help of industry specialists.
