Construction is expected to get underway within the next few weeks on a new £3 million building for Corran Integrated Primary in Larne.

A contract was signed last Thursday with the diggers expected on site at Seacourt Road by the end of the month.

The new building will include “top of the range technology in the new classrooms, as well as innovative and interactive outdoor spaces, and all important parking for parents”.

Chair of the Board of Governors Neil Clarke, said: “We received approval for the new build a while ago, but the formal contract process has been quite lengthy, so we weren’t in a position to announce anything definite until now.

“It’s been a labour of love so far and we are delighted to be able to finally see the ink dry on the official documentation. We’re all set now to start the new build within the next few weeks.”

Currently, Corran Integrated Primary and Nursery School is located at Blackcave North.

Acting principal Kevin Furey added: “We are delighted to get the go ahead on the new school build. It is fitting that this news comes as we celebrate our 25th anniversary.

“We have incredibly talented staff who constantly strive to ensure, that all our pupils reach their potential in a supportive and caring environment.

“Our new school building will provide us with the facilities and tools to make that task all the more achievable and points to a bright future for the whole school community.”

Already known as a creative and inspiring learning environment, the Integrated Education Fund recently recognised the value that Corran adds by providing funding for a marketing campaign to promote what the school has to offer to the local community.

Mr. Clarke explained: “We have so much to offer and we have been building up to this stage, demonstrating the school’s positive and progressive way of thinking through our marketing activity. It has also been a way of showing our pupils how proud we are of them – we want to put them on billboards, on posters, on banners. Our children are our greatest ambassadors, and we look forward to continuing to do them proud with this new school.”

The build is due to be completed by summer 2018 with the pupils and teachers hoping to take up residence soon after.
