It’s back to the days of the old music hall at the Riverside

Coleraine’s Riverside Theatre will be hosting “An Old Time Music Hall Evening of Melody and Mirth, Drama and Story Telling” - celebrating our shared history commemorating the centenary of the beginning of World War 1.

This will be the first time Riverside has hosted such a production for over 20 years.

The entertainment, arranged by SDLP having hired the theatre, will bring together all sections of the local community through an intergenerational cast. Acts will include Old Time Music Hall Melodies, acoustic guitar piece taken from Metallica, Highland Dancing, and tales of heroism through poetry and story-telling and drama. Songs performed by John McCormack supporting the war effort, along with music hall entertainment of that period.

On display in the foyer of the theatre will be an exhibition of memorabilia, provided by all sections of our community.

A boxed supper typical of the 1914-1918 period will be included in the price of the ticket.

The show will be held onSaturday, November 29.

Meanwhile the biggest rugby event of 2014 is set to kick off in the Riverside on Saturday, December 6 and fans of the legendary Joe Kavanagh, the greatest tight head prop in world rugby, are advised to line out early to ensure they bag the hottest tickets in town.

‘Joe Prop’ is the story of 12 year old Joe Kavanagh, a boy with a dream - a dream big enough to overcome any obstacle.

Medication for a childhood illness has left him overweight and a target for school bullies who among other things have dedicated a Facebook page to him called ‘Fat Joe Kavanagh’. However, Joe finds solace on the school rugby team as a prop in the scrum.

The show has been described as “‘possibly one of the sweetest theatrical experiences you will ever.
