Drew attracts a crowd for oil-painting workshop

THERE was another packed house for the latest in the series of Larne Art Club demonstrations and workshops.

Drew Montgomery (66) the locally-based, self-taught traditionalist opened his pallet of oil techniques for a captivated audience at the Carnegie Buildings. Taking his audience through the intricacies of how to create a portrait, Drew, who has been painting since aged nine, regaled everyone with a series of painter’s tales while completing another example of his specialist subject – the fox.

Next to feature in the Larne Art Club’s demonstration series is Paul Holmes on Tuesday, November 6 at 7.30pm again at the Carnegie Buildings. The subject matter will turn to watercolour and for this evening specifically to seascapes. Paul is an excellent tutor and an artist of renown. Places are limited and filling up fast so club secretary Patricia Rapp is advising early booking.

In terms of the members’ current activity, all eyes are focused on their forthcoming autumn exhibition. This will run on weekdays from November 5 – 16. It will be staged as usual in Larne Tourist Information Centre.

This year is already proving promising with the output from the club’s Monday and Wednesday classes of a high standard.

Club president Patricia Kay said: “The public will have a unique opportunity to snap up new artists at bargain prices.”

Information on the Paul Holmes’ night, club classes or the autumn exhibition can be obtained from the club secretary on 028 2827 9187
