Mid & East Antrim Borough Council has launched a new sports programme developed specifically for men over 50s.

Speaking at the launch in Larne Leisure Centre, Mayor Audrey Wales said: ”Statistics have shown that Mid & East Antrim has the highest rates of high blood pressure and diabetes amongst Council areas and the second highest rates of heart disease and obesity, which can often be helped or prevented through regular exercise.

“Council is tackling this issue head-on and I am delighted that our Sports Development unit has developed a programme specifically for men aged over 50. This club is designed to take all the thinking and planning out of exercising regularly, while recreating some of the camaraderie and social interaction that many men miss when they retire from competitive sport.”

Sessions take place every Monday at Larne Leisure Centre from 2pm and cost £2.
