TOPPER TRAVELLER SERIES STAGED AT LARNE

OVER the weekend East Antrim Boat Club held one of the five Topper Traveller series to be staged at five different venues throughout Ireland.

On Saturday, 27 boats took part in the RYA race training programme while on Sunday 42 boats from all over Ireland took part in the Topper Class Association races.

Three races were held in blustery conditions, with the worst of the weather hitting the first race and accounting for a few breakages and some early retirements.

The 4.2 class was won by Nicola Eames from SLYC, while Larne's Lucy McDowell was second. The U12 section was won by Patrick Cameron from Ballyholme, while Ben Regan from EDYC won the U14s. The U17 went to Jennifer Whittaker from Lough Erne Yacht Club with the overall title going to Christopher Eames from Strangford.

East Antrim's Helen Rutherford finished a creditable 11th overall against a very strong field.

The Flying Fifteen Northern Championships are to be held at the club over the weekend of June 13-14.

East Antrim commodore Gavin Doig and his crew are competing in the Brewin Dolphin Scottish Series in the Doigs' boat Bambi. At the time of writing they had scored two firsts and two seconds to lead Class 7 after four races.
