ST COMGALL'S CLINCH FIRST LEG OF DOUBLE
ST Comgall's FC are in contention for a league and cup double in the Ballymena Saturday Morning League.
The Larne side, who have won titles before now and currently top their division, clinched their first cup when they defeated Cloughmills Thistle 2-0 in the final of the Sammy Moore Trophy competitition.
Keeper Michael McCambridge kept St Comgall's hopes alive when he stopped a 25-yard free-kick early on. The Larne men replied with efforts from David Ferguson, Dale Kelly, David Masterson and Paul Smith, but neither side had conceded by half-time.
McCambridge was on his toes again within minutes of the restart, saving a volley struck from the edge of the box, but St Comgall's opened the scoring in the 55th minute with a neat finish by Ferguson.
Fifteen minutes later Mark McClean went one-on-one with the Thistle 'keeper to secure the victory.
St Comgall's team - McCambridge, James McKeown, Kelly, Smith, Masterson, Regan (sub. McAlister), John McKeown, McCorry, R McKeown, McClean (Martin), Ferguson (McRandle). Subs on bench - McKendry, Bird.
The Sammy Moore trophy will be on view at the club's annual dinner and dance in the Halfway House Hotel on May 30 and the St Comgall's team are hopeful it won't be the only silverware displayed.
