Richard Kilpatrick Classic is a resounding success

THE Richard Kilpatrick Golf Classic was staged at Banbridge Golf Club last Friday and it was an overwhelming success from start to finish.

Richard and his team of helpers had everything organised to perfection. The only thing they could not organise was the weather and thankfully, it turned out just glorious.

Over 60 teams took part and play went on all throughout the day.

It was marvellous fun, what with the longest drive at the fifth, closest to the hole at both the eighth and the 12th, a barbecue at the 10th and, to cap it all, a chance to beat the pro at the 15th.

There was a meal to follow in the clubhouse, then the prize giving ceremony.

After that, we had a wonderful auction of golf and rugby memorabilia and a raffle.

The clubhouse was packed to the doors, a mark of the esteem that Richard is held in.

It was an unforgettable day and everyone who participated hopes that Richard’s professional career goes from strength to strength. Nobody deserves it more.

The major prizewinners were as follows:

First Team: Timothy Beattie, Shane Crossan, Adrian Barry, John Convery - 110 points.

Second Team: Paul Magee, Paddy Grimes, Jonathan Shannon, Steven Pepper - 107.

Third Team: Neil Madeley, Kenny Whan, Mark Carson, Rory Madeley - 105.

Fourth Team: Sean Quinn, Christopher Quinn, Damian Dunne, Sacha Quinn - 103.

Longest Drive (15th): Nicky Paul (Lurgan); Closest to the pin (eighth): Timothy Beattie; Closest to the pin (12th): Damian Weir.

Richard made a heart-warming speech in which he thanked everyone who had helped to make the day such an outstanding success.

All his family were there and they must have been proud of him. And rightfully so!
