PRIZES GALORE AT WELLINGTON REC

THERE was a hat-trick of trophies for Andy Bell as Wellington Rec held their Player of the Year dinner dance in their social club at Millbrook.

Up until this season Andy, a closed season recruit from neighbours Larne Tech Old Boys, had been widely acknowledged as one of East Antrim's best midfielders but at Wellington, with an embarrassment of riches in midfield and a dearth of natural frontmen, he was pitched further forward.

His success was shown when he lifted the leading goalscorer award, with 16 goals. He also captured both the manager's and the players' player of the year awards.

And towards the end of the season, he was selected for the Northern Amateur League representative team (at right back!), along with Scott Cowie, for the annual Rosebowl game against the Scottish Amateur Association.

Another popular winner was Jeff Carmichael, Wellington's Clubman of the Year. Jeff stepped down as manager back in January after more than 10 years at the helm, with Jim Hagan taking over for the remainder of the season.

The catering for the delicious dinner was provided by Steven Henry.

Vice-chairman Billy Duddy (Mr Wellington Rec), assisted by John Shirley, announced the following winners, who received their awards from Mrs Joan Liddle, wife of David, the Rec chairman:

First Team Manager's Player of the Year; Andy Bell. First Team Players' Player of the Year; Andy Bell. First Team Leading Goalscorer; Andy Bell. Young Player of the Year; Scott Todd

Second Team Manager's Player of the Year; Andy Magee. Second Team Players' Player of the Year; tie Andy Magee and Peter Wilkinson. Second Team Leading Goalscorer; Stephen Gregg.

Most Improved Player; David Shannon.

Goal of the Season; goalkeeper Brendan Quinn's 'Pat Jennings' strike at Nortel back in January.

Clubman of the Year; Jeff Carmichael.
