Snooker update

Larne and District Snooker League leaders Greenbank ‘A’ this week suffered only their second defeat of the season in a close match with title contenders St Comgall’s.

Maurice Williams won the first frame, before Alphonsus McIlwaine took his chance at the black against up-and-coming cueman Davy Douglas, to win by a point.

There were successes for Berti Pill (21), Dean McDonagh and Joe Gribben, who battled back to win a great frame and help his side to a much-needed 4-1 win, which keeps them in contention.

Comrades ‘B’ recorded the result of the week with a superb 5-0 away win at Greenbank ‘B’. Declan McLean (25, 23), S. Crymble, N. Vennard, Tommy Hart and Joe Lennon all won for the visitors.

The Point notched their seventh win of the campaign with a 3-2 success over Comrades ‘A’. Graham Ferguson (25), Gary Neill (22), and Gary McNeill won their frames to secure victory, with Ronnie West and S. Shannon replying for the visitors.

Clubs are reminded that results and match reports should be submitted to the League Secretary by Thursday evening at the latest.

Congratulations to Ballyclare Golf Club’s Neil McKelvey and Darren Agnew will play team-mates Tommy Balmer and Stevie Higgins in the final of the Pairs’ Championships at St Comgall’s Club on Monday, February 11.
