Countdown is on to Half-Marathon

MEMBERS of Larne Athletic Club are gearing up for the annual Larne Half-Marathon which takes place on Saturday, March 23 (11am).

Last year the 13-mile event, organised in association with AES Ballylumford, attracted 1,400 competitors, and it’s now firmly one of the highlights of the Northern Ireland race calendar.

Next month’s race will see runners set off at Chaine Memorial Tower, through the town, where they will be greeted by live music and spectators and shoppers alike, before heading out on the stunning Coast Road towards Ballygally and Cairncastle. They will return to the Coast Road and back towards the finish at Larne Leisure Centre. There will be 1:30, 1:45 and 2:00 pacers available for anyone aiming for any of these times.

All finishers will be awarded with a medal and t-shirt. Larne AC have also increased the prize-money on offer for the race winners, category winners and relay team winners. There are also extra incentives available for anyone who breaks the course record.

If 13 miles sounds like too much for you, why not enter as part of a three-person relay team? There is also a walk available for those who would rather take in the scenic course at a slower pace.
