ATHLETICS: Larne AC round-up

The Annual Runher Coastal 10k Challenge was attended by four hardy Larne runners who were part of a 900-strong field on Friday.

First home for the club was Janine Rainey who claimed 68th in 49:01, followed by Juliane Mitchell Keane in 110th (51:48). Melissa Shields, only just back from injury, gained a personal best time of 57:43 to take 284th and hot on her heels came the ever-improving Gail Montgomery in a fantastic time of 1:02 (479th).

Elsewhere, Larne fielded 28 runners in Friday’s Albertville 5-mile race. The Larne AC male team missed out on third place by one point at the Belfast race, but the ladies’ team came in second, based on the club’s first three ladies; Patricia Blair, Bernie Ragan and Jayne Liddle.

John Neill finished first for the club in an excellent eighth place overall and a time of 22:55, while Martin Agnew took 10th in 23:00. William Thompson crossed the line in 21st (23:51). Next home was Nigel Kane with a time of 24:52.

Patricia Blair was first Larne AC lady to finish with her time of 25:24 giving her 45th place.

Next home for the club was Dan Magill (74th, 28:06), followed by Emmett Woods (78th, 28:55), Raymond Bannon (80th, 28:58), John Wright (88th, 29:30).

Bernard Brady took part in Saturday’s Jengana 10k at Shane’s Castle Estate in Antrim. He finished in 37:17 and was 5th overall.

Jack Baxter joined over 200 triathletes at the Roe Valley Sprint Triathlon. It was Jack’s first Sprint Triathlon and he showed his talent and dedication to the three disciplines by placing 35th overall. His time was 1:12:59 which was enough to claim 3rd (MJ).
