ATHLETICS: East Coast AC weekly update

East Coast AC's recent EAH Forest Series winner, Matthew Hewitt, joined nearly one hundred other athletes for Saturday's Jengana 10k, held within the confines of Shane's Castle Estate in Antrim.

Matthew was at the front of the field from early on, running well over the scenic 6.2-mile course to finish in second place in a time of 34:37.

On Friday, five East Coast AC ladies travelled to County Down for the Runher Coastal 10k race which started at Seapark close to Holywood, and took competitors along the scenic coastal path onwards to the atmospheric finish at Crawfordsburn Country Park.

Sarah Girvin was the first home for the club in a time of 59:38 (366th place), which was a new personal best for the improving young athlete. Fiona Swann and Mags Clements finished just seconds apart, with Fiona crossing the line in 1:02:10 (457th place) and Mags 1:02:36 (481st place).

Donna Robertson claimed 648th place with a time of 1:06:59 and Catherine Beggs covered the distance in 1:18:47 to take 810th place.

Also on Saturday, international triathlete Adele Neill was in action at the Roe Valley Sprint Triathlon in Limavady. Adele finished as ninth lady and first in her category with a time of 1:21:05.

Andy Guy and Brian Maltman travelled to Denmark at the weekend for the Sunday’s Telenor Copenhagen Marathon.

In very warm conditions, both athletes performed well. Guy was first to finish, crossing the line in a time of 2:57:28 to take 110th place (24th in category) out of over 9,000 other runners. Brian finished in 4:40:25, securing 6215th place and 815th in his category.
