The Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Borough, councillor Billy Ashe has today launched the Borough’s first Sports Awards.

“I am delighted to officially launch the 2015 Sports Awards for Mid and East Antrim Borough Council,” Cllr Ashe said at The Braid.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for us as a Borough Council to acknowledge and congratulate the past success of our talented athletes, coaches and volunteers. They all deserve recognition for all their hard work and ongoing dedication.”

“Nominations have now opened in advance of judging and the celebratory events that will take place across the three legacy council areas Ballymena, Carrickfergus and Larne,” he said.

Boxing legend Dave McAuley and broadcaster Jackie Fullerton were among the guests at Thursday’s event.

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council is now actively encouraging all those involved in sports to get behind their players and athletes, coaches and volunteers by nominating them for one of the nine awards to be decided upon at the ceremony.
