Two local primary school children recently brought home medals after successfully competing in Tae-kwondo’s Professor Chang Ung Cup in Edinburgh.
Aimee McRandle (nine) and Joshua Lynch (eight) were part of the Northern Ireland Tae-kwondo squad competing at the Meadowbank Sports Stadium. Aimee won bronze for patterns, and Joshua collected a silver medal for sparring. Their achievement is all the more remarkable given the quality at this competition which was open to green belts and above, and attracted entrants from not only Northern Ireland, England and Scotland but also Netherlands and Belgium.
It has been a very successful year for Joshua and Aimee. Following on from their success as green belts at the British Open in May, they both successfully graded to blue belts in September. Just a few weeks later Joshua won three gold medals at the Northern Ireland Championships in Bangor, and another three golds at the Belfast Regional Championship in early October. Meanwhile, Aimee achieved two silver medals at the Northern Ireland Championships, and two silver and a gold at the regional competition.
