While most of us were battening down the hatches, County Antrim Harriers braved the elements to compete at races in Cookstown and Castle Ward at the weekend.

On Saturday, Christine Murray and Carol Annesley battled through the snow, ice and bitter conditions at Acorns AC second annual Mighty Oaks Cross County in Cookstown.

The looped course was challenging, but both Murray and Annesley performed well. Murray was delighted to finish in a time of 26:110 and Annesley powered the last 400m, overtaking a number of competitors, to cross the line in 30:52.

On Sunday, the canine members of County Antrim Harriers had the opportunity to shine at the ‘Waggy Races’ Christmas Special 5k at Castle Ward, Co Down.

Icy winds and muddy trails didn’t stop the fancy-dressed runners and their dogs enjoying this well-organised and fun event.

The Force was certainly with Star Wars-themed Louise and Glenn Smart and Dexter, who claimed the first Pack prize and set a new Waggy Record.

Claire and Reece Oliphant, with Domino, Cathy Hopkins with Fred, Eileen Stewart with Jack, and Katherine McAllister with Tilly, also had great runs.
