Larne Ladies made it back-to-back league wins with a hard-fought 4-3 success over Victorians on Saturday.

In what was another must-win encounter, Victorians started strongly, pinning Larne inside their own half. After soaking up the pressure the Larne goal was breached with Victorians winning and converting their first penalty corner of the game.

Home heads dropped a little as Victorians continued to dominate the possession and restrict Larne but as the opening half drew to a close the local girls began to settle and quick thinking from Chloe McIlwaine set up Gillian Russell who scored the equaliser just seconds before the interval.

The momentum was with Larne and within minutes of the restart, they had taken the lead when Kerry McIlwaine managed to force the ball after a goalmouth scramble.

With the home side buzzing, they pushed forward again, this time forcing a penalty corner which Chloe McIlwaine smashed into the bottom corner to make it 3-1.

Midway through the half, Victorians hit back with two goals in quick succession.

With the game tied, Larne dug deep and swamped forward again. Player of the Match Chloe McIlwaine picked up the ball inside the circle, and saw her initial initial shot saved, but made no mistake from the rebound to clinch a precious win.

Larne Ladies Seconds eased to to a 4-1 success at home to Donaghadee in the Junior Plate.

Midway through the half, centre-forward Tracey Martin set up Dee Wallace for the opener which she drove high into the net.

Early in the second half, Wallace doubled Larne’s advantage with the help of the post and a short time later Anne Snoddy made no mistake from a set-piece.

Donaghadee pulled one back but Larne wrapped things up when Beth McFerran broke from the right, to volley home after her first shot was parried.
