Almost 50 runners descended on the Linford car park in midweek to take part in the penultimate race in the Larne Athletic Club Handicap series.

The off-road Scawt Handicap is one of the most challenging of the series with the ‘start from hell’ greeting the runners with almost 100 feet of climbing.

Two more significant climbs up either side of Scawt Hill awaited the runners over the testing four-mile course with the consolation of a fast finish down to the line.

Karen Liddle was first away on the night and was followed almost 27 minutes later by James McIlroy and guest runner, Mark McKinstry.

Liddle ran strongly and was still leading at the halfway turn but strong finishes by Stephen Withers, Nat Glenn and James Brown brought them home in the top three places in 33:17, 27:12 and 27:02 respectively.

With Withers and Glenn running as guests, the Scawt Handicap trophy went to Brown, whose time was a new course record. Fastest lady on the night was Beverly Gaston who finished in 39:41.

Larne AC wis to thank everyone who helped out with all aspects of the event.
