MILLAR'S VOTE OF CONFIDENCE

PAUL Millar has been as good as his word.

He called all the Larne players to a meeting at the end of February and told them that he'd be offering every one of them a contract at the end of the season. And he has now done that – a massive vote of confidence in his squad!

"That's really what it is," said the manager. "They are a great bunch of lads and I feel they all earned the right to be offered a new deal.

"We might need a bit of tinkering round the edges, but I believe that we are capable of doing a great job next year with the players we have.

"Of course, it's not that simple because the situation is not entirely in our own hands. I have had talks with Linfield and Glentoran about the players who have been on loan and we can't really do anything with regard to that quartet until they get back to me.

"It's understandable that, with such huge squads to work through, the players who have been farmed out at Inver Park will be fairly well down their pecking order in terms of dishing out new deals, so it may take a while for them to get to the bottom of this.

"Ideally, I'd love to get them all on proper contracts as bona-fide Larne players, but it would be very unlikely that will happen. Maybe one or two of them will be transferred, with the others hopefully available to come on longer loan terms – for the full season perhaps."

Millar revealed he had arranged to speak to Liam Hogan, Gary Rafferty, Damien McLaughlin and perhaps Noel Corrigan this week. He said: "I would be optimistic that all of them will be signing new contracts.

"I would be keen to get everybody on board by the end of May and then it will be a matter of bringing in a couple of new players to add a wee bit more strength.

"I have already been speaking to a few players, but these are tentative enquiries and I can do nothing until I sort out what I have on my plate at present.

"Any players who are discarded will be those who don't want to play for Larne FC. I don't want people who aren't committed to the jersey, but I can't identify anybody like that at the moment.

"I have a budget which is okay and I want to spend it sensibly. In past years Larne have been guilty of paying silly money and that's not going to happen in the future.

"The club is being run as a business and that's how it should be, because that's what football clubs are all about these days," added Millar.
