Larne’s Gareth McAuley has spoken of the immense pride he feels every time he pulls on the Northern Ireland shirt.
“It’s an honour, it’s a privelege. It’s something I have dreamt of and worked so hard for,” said the big central defender.
And he described his emotions when Northern Ireland qualified for the European Championships after the memorable win over Greece.
“The feeling at the final whistle when we had qualified and beaten Greece ... again, finding words to explain that is really difficult,” he told the Irish FA.
McAuley is expected to be an integral part of Michael O’Neill’s squad for Euro 2016, which kicks off next month.
