Larne’s Jonny Steele opened his goalscoring account with Major League Soccer side New York Red Bulls in Saturday’s 4-1 win over New England Revolution.
Steele played a defence-splitting pass which set up Thierry Henry to score New York’s third, before finding the net in the 89th minute, tapping home Eric Alexander’s cross.
Steele told the Larne Times: “It felt great to get on the score sheet and help create a few goals. My dad is in Inver House recovering from a stroke, and I know he’s watching and would give me stick if I missed a chance or don’t shoot. So to hit the back of the net felt amazing!”
He added: “And it’s always amazing to hear from all my mates back home on Twitter, knowing they’re all watching and supporting me.”
