Larne Sports Awards nominees revealed

The countdown to the Larne Borough Sports Awards (March 6) is well and truly under way. And the Larne Times, sponsor of the Sportsperson of the Year category at the annual bash, can this week reveal the shortlist.

The nominees for the Veterans’ Award are: Christine Murray; Richard Craig; Rhonda Brady (all athletics) and Cairndhu Rowing Club Mixed Veteran’s Crew.

The Challenger Award pits Ballygally Boccia Club against Roisin Lavery (Athletics), while the School Team of the Year category is made up of: Larne Grammar sailing team; St Killian’s College senior camogie team; Linn Primary School football team and St Killian’s College Foresters’ Cup hurling team.

In a change of format this year, the Services to Sport Award will be announced on the evening. The Hall of Fame winner will also be revealed on the night.

The Junior Team of the Year category comprises of: Larne Rugby Club Under-19; St Killian’s Forester’s Cup hurling team; Larne Grammar sailing team and Cairndhu Rowing Club’s Under-16 boys’ crew.

Glenn McCormick (motocross); Ethan Brownlee (powerlifting); Ayeisha McFerran (hockey) and Aidan Murray (rowing) are in the running for the Junior Sports Performer of the Year.

Bob Cameron (rugby) and Chris McNaghten (powerlifting) are up for Coach of the Year, while East Coast AC’s Mixed Relay team, Larne RFC U19s, Cairndhu Golf Club’s Ulster Cup team and Cairndhu Rowing Club’s senior ladies’ crew will be all be hoping to lift the Team of the Year prize.
