The Inver Reds go into the match on the back of a 3-0 Steel and Sons Cup win at Chimney Corner, while the Ports, who are fourth in the Premiership, suffered a 3-0 defeat to table-topping Linfield.

Maguire told the Times: “We are looking forward to the Portadown game and I don’t think they will be looking forward to coming to Inver for a mid-week game. It will be a different challenge for us but we have nothing to lose, we are playing well and will give it a go.”

His boss, Davy McAlinden, added: “I think we have a sporting chance, we will have to have a good night and they need to have a slightly off night, but it does happen. If we can do the things that we do well then we are certainly in with a shout.

“We will be well prepared and I believe at the end of the game we will still be in contention. It will certainly be a different game plan than we had at Chimney Corner.”
