Speaking after Saturday’s 3-1 friendly victory over Albert Foundry, Maguire said: “I can’t wait for the new season and am really looking forward to it. The training has been good and I think we have real quality in the squad; we are a bit rusty at the minute but I think it will come together.

“I have got good support up front and honestly believe with the players around me I can get 30 goals this season - if I can avoid any injuries,” he said.

Asked if the team could be title challengers, Maguire added: “It is a bit too early to be making predictions as it will be a long, hard season with all the cup games to take in as well. “We will need all the squad to cope with the fixtures but I would be hopeful we will be in the mix come the end of the season.”

In Saturday’s game Foundry took an early lead through Aaron Walsh when his deflected shot gave John Connolly no chance.

The home side levelled six minutes before the break when Maguire turned in a low cross from the impressive Gerald Gillan. Thomas Robinson capped a great display with a thundering drive to put Larne in front.

Maguire wrapped up the win eight minutes from time with a trademark finish, sweeping the ball home.
