Former Northern Ireland international Michael Hughes has been inducted into Larne’s Sporting Hall of Fame.

Hughes, 43, was honoured at Larne Borough Sports Awards which took place at the McNeill Theatre on Thursday evening.

The ex-Manchester City star, played 71 times for his country between 1991 and 2004 and netted five goals.

He began his career at Carrick Rangers before making the move to Maine Road. He also had spells at Strasbourg, West Ham United, Wimbledon, Birmingham City, Crystal Palace and Coventry City.

Hughes is still involved in football as majority shareholder at Carrick Rangers. It proved to be a big night for the Chmapionship 1 club as their manager, Gary Haveron, also a Larne native, picked up the prize for Coach of the Year.
