Perhaps it’s just as well there isn’t a special Newtownabbey section as the only Amateur League sides Mossley have lost to this season have been neighbours 18th Newtownabbey in the Irish Cup, followed by Saturday’s 4-2 defeat at home to Nortel in the Border Cup.

Nortel’s Mark Wilkinson cancelled out Robbie Barton’s opener and sub Dale Fenner made his mark with two goals. Lee Graham pulled one back for Mossley, but Adam Richmond sealed it for the visitors.

There may have been a sting in the tail had Nortel netminder Kris Malone not saved Graham’s 80th-minute penalty.

Mossley manager Garry Campbell said: “I have no complaints. I was happy the way we were playing at 1-0, only we let them in for a soft one just before half-time. I was a bit disappointed at 3-1 down where our boys had lost the will and the hunger. Nortel got fitter and stronger as the game went on and by the end they were comfortable winners!”

Opposite number Lee McCartney agreed: “We weren’t at it in the first half. The way we set up left us wide open but we looked a lot better after changing our formation. Even so, it could have been nervy enough had Mossley scored their penalty!”

Elsewhere, Barn United marched through with a 3-1 home victory over Premier Division side Crumlin United, thanks to two first-half strikes from Andy Kane (one a penalty), before Alan McCune added a third after the break. Crumlin notched a consolation late in the final quarter.

Elsewhere Rathfern lost 3-1 at Dundonald. Gary Orr got their goal.

In the Premier Division, Chris Dykes scored Islandmagee’s goal as they recorded their fifth draw of the season in a 1-1 share of the spoils at home to Drumaness Mills.

Larne Tech suffered their third league deafeat of the season as they went down 3-0 at Division 1A leaders Abbey Villa.

In 1b, Scott Cowie and Michael Moore put Wellington Rec two up against 10-man UUJ with 15 minutes to go but the visitors rescued a point with late goals from Kevin O’Neill and Ryan Kelly.

There was a point for 18th Newtownabbey who drew 1-1 at home to Dunmurry YM, while Newington Rangers lost 4-2 at home to Iveagh United.

In Division 2B, Greenisland were 4-0 winners at Temple Rangers, while in 2C Grange Rangers defeated Donaghadee 3-1 and Whitehead Eagles drew 1-1 at Ballysillan Swifts.
