It’s McGarel’s second stint in charge. He took over in the summer of 2014, only to be replaced before the start of the season by Geordie Lynn.

This time, however, at least there will be some competitive action in Saturday’s visit of Saintfield United.

Rangers, second-bottom of Division 1C go into the clash on the back of five straight league defeats in which they have leaked 36 goals.

But McGarel advises: “There are four teams not that far away – a couple of wins and we’re ahead of them. I’m doing my best to strengthen the squad and hoping to get a few players back – though it’s hard at this time of the season!”
