BOWLS: Curran Ladies power past Lagan Valley

Contrasting opening nine ends was the feature of the rearranged Curran v Lagan Valley Northern Ireland Women's Bowling Associate fixture. Pauline Blair, Linda Swann, Rene Gallagher skipped by Joyce Spiers really set the green on fire leading 14-0 at the halfway stage.

Thereafter, the locals coasted to a 20-4 comprehensive victory. Not so for Valerie Noble whose rink with Ethel Miller, Sonya McDermott and Eileen Magill struggled over the opening nine ends trailing 10-3.

Restricting their visitors to two winning ends and recording a six on the 15th end, Curran returned a 19-13 winning card. Lagan Valley could only field three players on their rink so a quarter of their points scored were deducted, leaving the card to read 19-9.75. Result: Curran LBC 39 shots (5 points) Lagan Valley LBC 13.75 shots (0 points).
